Title: Educational Technology Consultant
Primary Role:
The Digital Schools Solutions educational consultant will support schools by designing and providing professional development that increases the technological competency and proficiency of faculty and staff, with an emphasis on empowering educators to utilize the power of technology to prepare young people to compete in the global economy. The DSS methodology to professional development embraces an in-school, job-embedded approach. Consultants work in schools to conduct small group trainings, 1:1 coaching, and in-class modeling under a team teaching approach. Some engagements will include online follow-up and facilitation as needed.
Qualifications:
• At least ten years of experience as an educational technologist
• Prior K-12 teaching experience with knowledge and mastery of a variety of effective instructional strategies; especially relevant is literacy, math, science, or social studies content knowledge.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the National Technology Standards, core concepts of Media Literacy and elementary, middle and high school curriculum, and cognitive development
• An understanding of key learning theories and methods of instruction and their relation to technology integration.
• Familiarity with methods for integrating technology into the curriculum such as digital storytelling, WebQuests, online writing workshops, digital resources, digital portfolios and other forms of teaching and assessment.
• Ability to support learning and integrate technology into the curriculum
• Technology skills in up-to-date computer software, including word processing, Internet research, database, spreadsheet, Web page development, presentation, digital video, Web 2.0, and audio editing and image processing
• Ability to identify and evaluate hardware and software and make recommendations for use in alignment with state standards & Grade Expectations and school curriculum.
• Knowledge and understanding of adult learners and demonstrated ability to motivate and teach adults in a variety of instructional settings
• Provide training and facilitate learning via real-time web conferencing tools.
• Demonstrated capacity to be self-directed, organized, and collaborative
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
Bonus Qualifications:
• Educational Technology Specialist endorsement or willingness to obtain endorsement within two years.
Performance Responsibilities:
• Serve as educational technology leader
• Work with school leaders to create a customized professional development plan centering on the integration of technology into the K-12 classroom
• Participate in the development and implementation of a school-wide Innovation Plan in support of reaching both organizational and instructional goals
• Assist teachers to plan and implement technology-infused units of study consistent with student needs and instructional goals
• Support teachers in their use of technology in all curricular areas, including modeling and co-teaching
• Work with the staff to set measurable goals and implement action plans aligned to those goals
• Coordinate professional development activities directly related to the integrated use of technology in all content areas, including student demonstration projects, classroom demonstrations, team teaching, and workshops
• Communicate with the school staff and community about training, equipment, software, curriculum materials, instructional video, and other technology resources
• Observe use of technology applications within all classrooms and provide feedback regarding impact of professional development offerings on student learning, level of student application, and current professional development needs
• Supervise the operation and use of any site-based technology in order to assure curriculum and instructional alignment and effective use of technology resources at the school site
• Design and implement local technology assessment plan for students in collaboration with partner school or district
• Assist teachers and students in the use of assistive technology Work on a flexible schedule to allow for after school training
• Works well in a team environment but is also self directed and motivated.
Other Requirements:
• Willingness to travel to schools in the NYC metro area; possible travel to districts in NE and SE regions
Locations: Positions based in NYC, NY; remote positions to include PA, NJ, DC, CA, FL, TX
