Daniel Storchan
As the Educational Technology Manager at Digital School Solutions, Dan is directly responsible for the management of a team of educational technology consultants, who offer high-level expertise in professional development in technology integration based on a pedagogical framework. Dan strongly orientates his team towards a focus on providing professional development linked to the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers. This focus is clearly on teaching and learning and not on the technology involved.
In the practical application of this role, Dan divides his time between management and school-based consultancy, working closely with principals and teachers to build 21st century strategic innovation plans. In schools, one of the key aims of Dan's work is to demonstrate that it is possible to create flexible professional development for staff through the appropriate use of technology. Integral to this process is always the active enlistment of a team of stakeholders to improve learning experiences for students by providing effective new ways to instruct and assess.
In 2009 Dan played a pivotal role in the development and launch of AUSSIE’s sister company, Digital School’s Solution, whose mission is to bring about a new kind of professional development that transforms educational teams into vibrant 21stcentury learning communities. Upon joining the AUSSIE administration in 2007, Dan brought with him extensive experience in both Education, as a secondary education English teacher in NYC, and as an educational consultant for Teaching Matters. Dan has a MA in Media Studies from the New School University where he focused on integrating media literacy into school based settings. He has presented workshops on developing Personal Learning Networks in the blogosphere, digital storytelling, and innovation planning in a range of settings, including NECC, NYSCATE, NSDC, and NAMLE.
