Workshops

DSS offers a number of part-day and full-day workshops, and multi-day innovation institutes that can be customized to meet the specific goals of the school or learning community. Participants own the learning; they are in the “active learner’s seat”, as the DSS consultant facilitates interactive dialog and hands-on work -- involving multimedia case studies and exemplary lesson and student work -- that results in real work product that participants can take back and use in their professional learning communities, schools, and that can be customized to meet the specific goals of the school or learning community.  Workshops are always anchored in a specific content area, such as literacy, math, science or social studies, and never “teach technology skills” in isolation Participants will come away from an DSS workshop experience with tangible skills and work product (i.e., innovation plans, tech-integrated curriculum maps, tech-infused units of study, technology-based lesson plans and assessment rubrics, digital organizers) that they can use in their own professional practice, whether they be Network Leaders, school administrators, librarians/media specialists, coaches, technology directors/coordinators, classroom teachers, or parent coordinators.

Online Professional Learning Community

Participants will also have ongoing access to a DSS online professional learning network which will archive all Institute materials, such as model innovation plans, templates, and best-practice exemplars. Each workshop or institute is extended via an online professional learning community that archives consultant-participant interactions, case studies, workshop materials, templates, and participant work.  As participants create their own materials and daily reflections, they will be encouraged to share them on the network. DSS consultants will comment on work and be available after the Institute concludes for a period to answer questions and provide support.
